I felt like I was drowning
Garrett Salpeter is an Entrepreneur based in Austin, TX. Garrett’s company, NeuFit, helps professional and Olympic athletes recover faster from injuries and get more out of their workouts.
The #1 thing holding Garrett back from growing his business and helping more elite athletes was how much minutiae he was stuck doing.
Garrett says, “I was doing everything and wearing every hat. My plate was getting so full, I felt like I was drowning in many respects. Finally, hiring an assistant was my only choice.”
Turning Point
In Fall 2018, Garrett met Great Assistant Founder Tim Francis at a dinner party. Tim suggested that Garrett do a brief time study to see where his time was going.
A few weeks later, Garrett was stunned:
“It was such an eye-opening, ah-ha moment, where I realized, I’m spending 15-20 hours a week doing administrative tasks – what am I doing?”
He’d discovered the bottleneck preventing him from growing his business.
More Time To Focus on the Big Picture
A few months later Garrett got started with the Great Assistant program.
In March 2019, he was matched with his Great Assistant, Ami, who is based in Iowa.
They hit the ground running. Ami has taken on Garrett’s administrative tasks such as billing, invoicing, and contracts, along with personal tasks like booking travel and managing his email inbox.
“She’s doing 20 hours a week that there’s really no way I could be doing,” says Garrett.
Thanks to his Great Assistant, Garrett can now focus on higher-value tasks to really drive the business forward, such as presenting at universities, working with professional sports teams, and running training-certification classes.
Garrett reports that with more time to focus on the big picture, “I finally have time to think about the direction of the business and product roadmap, and to oversee scientific research to validate the tens of thousands of amazing case studies and positive outcomes of NeuFit’s technology.”
Garrett's Advice to You
Garrett’s words of wisdom for his fellow Entrepreneur:
“Be protective of your time, attention, effort, and focus. Understand that it’s a finite resource. If you’re spending time on things you could be delegating, you’re ultimately holding your business back.”
Garrett also recommends Entrepreneurs do a time study like he did to determine how much time could be saved by getting an Assistant.
Looking back on his Great Assistant experience, Garrett reflects:
“I had high expectations for the Great Assistant process and they’ve been exceeded!
“I was nervous about recruiting and interviewing but was so impressed by Maria, who worked with me to clarify the message of the ads that would go out and the type of person we were looking for.
“It was a valuable experience for me to go through. I appreciated the high-quality candidates I was presented with and the seamless way we were connected. And I even got business coaching out of it.
“I’m very happy with Ami. It’s allowed NeuFit to get the infrastructure in place to grow and serve more people. That’s what we set out to do, and gosh darn it, we did it!”
